The Messerschmitt Bf 109, often referred to as the ME -109 was  a German WWII fighter plane, it was designed by Willy Messerschmitt & Robert Lusser during the early to mid 30’s .

It was among the first true fighters of its time, Boasting such features as an all metal Monocoque construction (a construction technique that supports structural load by using an object’s exterior, as opposed to using an internal Frame or Truss that is then covered with a non-load-bearing Skin),  a closed canopy , retractable landing gear &  a liquid cooled V12 aero engine. The ME-109 was first introduced in to service during the Spanish Civil War  and remained the backbone of the Luftwaffe throughout WWII and was still in service at the dawn of the Jet age.  From the end of 1941 the Bf 109 was supplemented by the Focke-Wulf FW 190.

Originally conceived as an interceptor later models were modified to complete multiple missions including Bomber Escorts, Fighter-Bomber, Day / Night / All Weather Fighter, Ground Attack and also reconnaissance Aircraft. It was supplied to and operated by many states and served with many countries after the war. It became the most produced plane during WWII with over 30000 being built during this time and also became the the most produced fighter aircraft in history, with a total of 33,984 units produced up to April 1945.

The Bf 109 was flown by the three top-scoring German Fighter Aces  of World War II, who claimed 928 victories among them mainly on the eastern front as well as the highest scoring German Ace in the North Africa Campaign. It was also flown by several other successful aces from Germany’s allies including Finland , Croatia , Romania & Hungary. Through constant development, the Bf 109 remained competitive with the latest  Allied fighter aircraft until the end of the war.

This plane is described as RTF or ready to fly. This means that everything except batteries for the transmitter is included in the box and that only a few minor stages of assembly remain such as attaching the wings and tailplane. These steps should take around 30 minutes to complete.
