This is a nice flying plane with lots of room for electronics on board. TBM provides flight training to UAV pilots for Unmanned Vehicle University using this and other fixed wing aircraft. This is an excellent platform which can hold not only a FPV camera but can also hold a variety of other sensors as long as they are small. If you want a smaller, stable, long endurance aircraft - this is it!

We recommend a large capacity 3S battery with a 4S motor to offer the highest efficiency. Two 3S high capacity batteries offer flight times of over an hour depending on the weight of the sensors. We like 3S batteries because no regulators are required to operate the 12v systems on the plane such as the sensor, FPV camera and video transmitter. A speed control with a 2 amp BEC can operate the C2 (command and control) receiver and servos. Using the My Fly Dream or Pixhawk autopilot will offer excellent autopilot capabilities – both use open source ground control stations. This offers full waypoint capabilities. You can operate multiple aircraft from one GCS to cover large areas. It is possible to operate an infinite number of aircraft simultaneously if required. Typical coverage is 400 acres in a one hour flight using the photogrammetry function to take high res photos at 400 feet or below offering 1-3cm per pixel resolution. Therefore 2,000 to 3,000 acres a day are possible to cover in one day with one aircraft.

We recommend no more than 10 aircraft being operated simultaneously from two ground stations which will offer up to 20,000 acres a day. This will required several operators to write mission plans, launch multiple aircraft, retrieve aircraft, swap out SD cards, upload the SD card’s data to a storage device, upload new mission plans, etc. The second ground station is required in case of an emergency situation for one of the aircraft so that it can be isolated from the others and dealt with on its own. The My Fly Dream AAT (automatic antenna tracker) works like a dream! It uses the audio channel to track the aircraft and point the focused antenna at the aircraft for long range, very solid video communications on 5.8Ghz for many miles. Using the DragonLink LRS (Long Range System) offers a solid C2 link up to 50 miles or more depending on conditions.
